At RCM d.o.o., we are closely monitoring the escalating situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Middle East region, which intensified in early March 2026. Although our primary shipping routes from Asia do not directly pass through this area, current geopolitical developments are causing significant disruptions in global maritime logistics, which indirectly affect our operations at the Port of Koper and our RCM logistics center in Hrpelje – Kozina.
Due to increased security risks, many shipping lines have begun rerouting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope, which brings several operational challenges:
- Extended transit times – delays in container arrivals at the Port of Koper are currently estimated at 10 to 15 additional days.
- Increased logistical pressure – irregular vessel arrivals may cause cargo surges, occasionally leading to higher workload in transshipment and storage at our Kozina facility.
- Higher transportation costs – shipping lines are introducing Emergency Surcharges and War Risk Surcharges, affecting overall freight costs.
- Limited equipment availability – longer vessel rotations slow down the return of empty containers to Asia.
At RCM d.o.o., we are making every effort to minimize the impact on your supply chains. Our teams in Koper and Kozina remain in constant contact with shipping lines, port operators and customs authorities to ensure fast cargo handling, customs clearance and onward distribution as soon as shipments arrive.
